The ideal location for:
The club was founded as a place where the local business community meets.
The club was established in 1897 on the eastern side of Central Plaza conveniently next to both the railroad station and the new city hall. The original building was designed by Samuel Woodford Brown.
The cub's founders included the growing city's leading entrepreneurs and business people of the era, including Frederick Barnholm (The Trader's Bank), William T. Star (founder of the Green Star Steamship Line), Horace Wonderbread and many others. They wanted a place where they could meet, relax and enjoy a good lunch.
The orginal club building was replaced in the 1920s by the Bigelow Building, but the the club retained the use of the upper floors of the new building. In 1955 the club merged with the Southside Merchants Club and moved into the top floors of the Wilson Building. This expansion means members have a place to meet clients, hold business meetings in each of the region's two main business areas.
